Class specifications will accelerate worldwide commercial deployment of LiMo 4 devices

ORLANDO, US – 22 March – limofoundation.org, a global consortium of leading mobile operators, device and technology vendors, today announced that the LiMo Board has approved the four classes of devices that will initially underpin the commercial launch of  LiMo 4 devices in the market.

LiMo 4, the latest release of the LiMo Platform which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress, is highly flexible and can span a broad range of form factors and price points. The specifications, which provide indicative minimum requirements across four classes of devices, have been readied by a taskforce of LiMo Members, including a range of major operators, with a view to simplifying open participation in the creation of commercial LiMo 4 devices.

“Following the successful introduction of LiMo 4, consensus has been reached on a set of general device class specifications that will be supported by LiMo 4,” said Morgan Gillis, Executive Director, limofoundation.org. “We believe these specifications will make it easier for all interested companies to be part of the device creation activity and so boost the attractiveness and time-to-market of LiMo 4 devices.”

The four classes of device for which the indicative minimum specifications have been established are: flagship smartphones, mid-tier smartphones, entry-level smartphones and tablets.

The first LiMo 4 devices are expected to be brought to market during the second half of by operators across the globe.
